PRESS RELEASE: Hon. Minister Addresses False Claims on Military Pension Funds Allocation

The Honourable Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, clarifies that no funds intended for Retired Military Pensioners have been allocated to the Defence Minister. Reports suggesting a transfer of N25 billion for this purpose are false and baseless.

The public is urged to dismiss these claims as they are malicious attempts by detractors to undermine the current administration's Renewed Hope Agenda. The Honourable Minister affirms that no funds have been, or will be, given to any minister or ministry, emphasizing her commitment to the welfare of veterans.

The ministry has submitted a list of 17,077 Veterans and 264,560 Pensioners to the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) for verification. In-person verification by the Nigerian Legion and Pensioners group is ongoing, ensuring accurate disbursement to eligible recipients.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in collaboration with the World Bank, is diligently verifying the register. Once this process is complete, all eligible retired veterans and pensioners will receive their payments directly into their bank accounts.

Contrary to rumors, the ministry has not released any funds for the Renewed Hope Cash Transfer, and all disbursements will adhere to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive. Funds will be sent directly to beneficiaries' verified bank accounts, promoting transparency and accountability.

The President's initiative to expand the National Social Register and provide a three-month payment of N25,000 to veterans is commendable. Nigerians are urged to appreciate this groundbreaking effort and not be swayed by misinformation from those seeking to distract from the positive impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
