Senator Abiru's Generosity Shines: Over 8,500 Festive Food Packs Bring Joy to Lagos East Constituents
Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, has undertaken a significant humanitarian effort by distributing over 8,500 food packs to his constituents in preparation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. These packs, which consist of essential items such as rice, beans, and garri, were simultaneously distributed across the 16 Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas within the Senatorial District.
The primary focus of this initiative was to assist vulnerable groups in the district, including widows, individuals with physical disabilities, unemployed youths, women, and the elderly. In addition to these groups, trade associations, youth organizations, religious bodies, party members, leaders, and traditional rulers were also identified as beneficiaries. Furthermore, an inclusive approach was adopted by selecting individuals from online nominations to receive the food packs, thereby extending support to a broader segment of the population, especially those in need during the festive season.
Beneficiaries, gathered from various collection centers in Ikorodu, Kosofe, Somolu, Epe, and Ibeju-Lekki, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Senator Abiru for his ongoing support, particularly in times of difficulty. They emphasized Senator Abiru's noteworthy achievements, such as the facilitation of impactful projects like hospitals, sports centers, markets, and the empowerment of constituents through initiatives like the SAIL Innovation Lab project. The senator's consistent support for party members, leaders, and constituents, especially during festive periods, was also acknowledged by those benefiting from the distribution.
Notably, Senator Abiru had previously initiated the quarterly Food Packs Programme in June 2023, responding directly to the economic challenges faced by grassroots communities following the removal of the petroleum subsidy. This ongoing commitment to addressing the needs of the community further reinforces his dedication to enhancing the well-being of his constituents.
It's essential to recognize that this distribution effort is not Senator Abiru's first direct humanitarian endeavor. In a prior initiative, he disbursed over N150 million Naira over 24 months to more than 2,500 vulnerable individuals through his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme. Each beneficiary received a monthly direct credit of N5,000 throughout the duration of the program, showcasing the senator's consistent efforts to support those facing economic hardships.
