Ikorodu Division Council Bosses Host Lagos State Female Councillors Forum for International Women's Day Celebration 2024
In a vibrant display of unity and empowerment, the Lagos State Female Councillors Forum orchestrated an unforgettable event to commemorate International Women's Day 2024. The event was held at the Ikorodu West LCDA Council Secretariat, where esteemed female councillors in Lagos State, leaders, and advocates converged under the resonating theme, "INSPIRE INCLUSION." Led by the President of the Female Councillors Forum, Hon. Folashade Akinpelu, the gathering echoed with stirring speeches and heartfelt tributes, celebrating the indomitable spirit of women in governance.
Hon. Folashade Akinpelu, President of the Female Councillors Forum, delivered a compelling speech emphasizing the importance of gender equality and inclusion in governance. She expressed gratitude to the leadership bodies for their steadfast support in advancing women's representation across Lagos State. She extended special appreciation to all the council bosses in Ikorodu LGA division: Hon. Wasiu Adekunle Agoro (Imota LCDA), Hon. Sesan Daini (Igbogbo/Bayeku), Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba (Ijede LCDA), Hon. Adeola Adebisi Banjo (Ikorodu North), Hon. Wasiu Adesina (Ikorodu Central) for hosting us, and most importantly and our Chief Host Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju of Ikorodu West LCDA. Additionally, she thanked all the party leaders across the 20LGs/37LCDAs in Lagos State for giving the forum the opportunity to be part of governance at the grassroots level. Hon. Akinpelu highlighted the forum's progress, noting that at the beginning of their tenure (2021-2025), there were 41 females out of 377 councillors in Lagos State. She expressed determination to advocate for more inclusion and empowerment.
The 2024 International Women's Day (IWD) week coincided with the forum's general meeting on March 6th, 2024, serving as a fitting occasion to celebrate the selfless services rendered by female councillors at the grassroots level. Hon. Akinpelu concluded by stating that when women are given a sense of belonging and importance, they feel stronger and more empowered.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Councillors Forum, Hon. Nurudeen Alowonle, joined the gathering to echo sentiments of inclusivity and empowerment.
