Senator Tokunbo Abiru Attends World Teachers’ Day Event, Extols Sacrifices, Diligence of Teachers Amidst Challenges

The Senator representing Lagos East District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, on Saturday joined teachers across the Ikorodu Division in commemorating the World Teachers’ Day.

The venue of the event, The Teachers’ House, Methodist Schools Complex, Ikorodu went into frenzy when teachers spotted Senator Abiru at the colourful event. Many of the teachers who had participated in the Lagos East Teachers Fellowship at the SAIL Innovation Lab, a tech and digital facility set up by Senator Abiru and his wife, could not hide their joy when they saw the lawmaker.

Abiru, while extolling the role of teachers in nation building, and in the preservation of values in the society, stressed that no nation can experience sustainable development if teachers are not adequately catered for.

He said, “As a leader who understands the global trend of human capital development, I believe that If we are to build a future where all children have access to quality education, we must invest in our teachers. We must ensure they have the resources, training, and support they need to be successful.

“This is exactly what my endowment, The SAIL Empowerment Foundation, has been championing through Lagos East Teachers’ Fellowship, where thousands of teachers across the Senatorial District had been upskilled and exposed to the modern instructional method, particularly the Inquiry Based Learning Methodology.

“That is not all. There is a special programme called, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for Senior Secondary School Students. Many of our children in public schools around the vicinity of SAIL Innovation Lab in Ipakodo, Ebute  Ikorodu, are exposed early in life to STEM Lab where they can interact with 3-D technology, and other innovations that will spur learning and creativity.  This is in addition to many other life transforming programmes like Data Science, Tech Talent Development, Digital Marketing and Game Development among others.

“We have also facilitated construction of schools, and other educational support across the Lagos East Senatorial District. As we are improving the physical infrastructure, and learning environment of our kids, the welfare and wellbeing of our teachers should be paramount if they are to continue fulfilling their role as mentors, guides, and role models for our children”.

He expressed profound gratitude to teachers for their sacrifices and perseverance towards children’s development.
